Climbing in Stubai

Climbing in the Stubaital valley means rock, ice, and mountain air in one of Austria’s most exciting mountain regions. Well-secured multi-pitch routes await you, as do challenging tours for experienced Alpine climbers in the Kalkkögel and Pinnistal valley areas.

Sport climbing enthusiasts will find themselves in seventh heaven in the secured climbing areas, and the Fulpmes climbing hall offers a real challenge, whatever the weather. In addition, Adventure Park Fulpmes – home to Tyrol’s largest high ropes course – offers 130 challenges across 13 courses, suitable for beginners and pros alike.

In winter, the Stubaital valley transforms into an ice-climbing paradise. The ice falls in the Pinnistal and Unterbergtal valleys are among the most important ice climbing routes in Austria. If you’re keen to try ice climbing for the first time, the best place to start is at the ice climbing tower on the Stubai Glacier, accompanied by a mountain guide.

Paragliding

The Stubaital valley is regarded by paragliders as one of the best flying areas in Tyrol. At the Kreuzjoch pass in Schlick 2000, you can look forward to perfect thermals and an ideal launch site with direct access via cable car. You glide 1,200m back down to Fulpmes, over rugged peaks, mountain lakes, and the sprawling Stubaital valley. An experienced pilot will be by your side for your tandem flight: after a few steps’ run-up, you take off gently, and that feeling of freedom immediately takes hold.
